I've for many years kept my eyes open for a decent place to get a haircut in Bali. Not a womens salon but a barbershop where men cut men and they do it good. The local village barbershops found spread out here and there are abit shabby and the salons are mainly for women. From my experience the hairdressers are not that used to cut men which can sometimes be more complicated so the outcome is not always good, sometimes even really bad.

I found his little place at Jln.Sudirman in Denpasar called Jiper's. Only one barber there but he does the job. I don't want any modern beckham or styled look. I just want a 'rapi' or neat/well-groomed haircut so my cutting was mostly done with a trimmer. There is definitely room for barbershops in Bali and i know many alikes that are confused between the choice of going to a women's salon and a shabby village barber. This place was abit shabby too but at least i got a good haircut. Wanna try something new? Start a clean and classy barbershop in Bali!

As for me, I’m spoiled rotten. Right across the street from the entrance to the Royal Pita Maha, (and thus our house) is a small barber shop run by three brothers from Madura.

Each of them is brilliant in cutting a man’s hair. These days, Eri just stops by and asks if “today” is good for them, and one of them will come by our house about 5 PM and cut my hair and each of our three boys. The cost is IDR 2,500 for each of our boys, and 5,000 for me, but he (whichever of the brothers) always leaves with 50K which is still an incredible bargain, but not too over the top as to upset the economic apple cart here in our village.

It’s always about maintaining balance, isn’t it? Yes, it is.
